Fatty Liver and Chronic Liver Disease

Fatty Liver and Chronic Liver Disease

Studying chronic liver disease, fatty liver disease, microbiome patterns, and predictors of disease progression.

This research area examines the growing burden of fatty liver disease and chronic liver disease in the Philippines. Its flagship work applies multi-omics approaches to better understand gut-liver interactions, with a focus on microbiome and metabolome predictors of disease outcomes.

Key activities include recruitment and profiling of patients with chronic liver disease, sequencing and metabolomic analysis, bioinformatics, and the identification of microbial and metabolic markers associated with fibrosis progression. Its expected outputs include microbiome-based prognostic models and evidence for future microbiome-targeted interventions.
